Website Tracking & Analytics Audit

Free GTM & Tag Audit Tool: find tracking gaps in seconds

A free browser-observed check for ecommerce sellers and the agencies who support them.

Scan the tracking your store exposes in a real browser, review the tags and conversion signals we observe, and catch issues worth investigating before your reporting drifts. No login or credit card.

Many stores only discover a duplicate tag, a consent-related gap, or a missing event field after analytics looks wrong. PayHelm gives sellers and agencies a practical first look, with an A–F grade and plain-English findings. A scan usually takes around a minute, but some sites take longer.

SEO health: titles, meta tags, headings, and indexability.

Tracking health: observed GTM, GA4, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok, and other supported activity.

A practical, browser-observed check

What does a GTM / tag audit actually check?

A tag audit looks at the signals a real browser can observe on your public site. PayHelm loads pages and checks the runtime container and network activity, consent signals, dataLayer events, and scripts that may be duplicated outside your tag manager.

  • GTM and tag activityWhether a detected container loads and which supported vendor requests are observed.
  • Consent signalsConsent-related state visible during the scan, including whether it may affect observed tracking.
  • Ecommerce event fieldsCaptured dataLayer events and useful fields such as value, currency, items, and transaction ID.
  • Hardcoded duplicatesRecognizable tracking scripts outside GTM that could overlap with container-managed tags.

The report grades checks performed and signals observed during this scan. It is a useful starting point, not a certification that every tag works on every page.

Google Tag Manager audit: see inside your container

This is an observed-runtime GTM audit, not a private container inspection. The scan can report a detected container, browser-observed vendor requests, dataLayer pushes, consent signals, and recognizable hardcoded duplicates. That helps distinguish “snippet present” from activity the browser actually exposed during the scan.

PayHelm cannot read your private GTM tags, triggers, or variables, and cannot confirm why a private trigger is configured a certain way. A tag that did not appear in observed browser activity may still fire on another page or under a different consent or user condition. Use the report to guide a deeper review in Tag Assistant and your GTM account.

Conversion tracking audit: stop flying blind on ad spend

Missing or malformed conversion signals can make campaign reporting harder to trust. PayHelm checks what the browser exposes during the scan: supported network requests and observed ecommerce events, including event fields such as value, currency, and transaction ID where available.

What the scan can flag

Missing observed events, suspiciously incomplete event payloads, and supported pixel or analytics requests seen while pages load.

What still needs a real test

The audit does not place an order, validate revenue in GA4 or ad dashboards, or prove browser/server pixel deduplication. Test a purchase flow and confirm results in each platform before relying on conversion reporting.

Why is the tag audit free?

PayHelm wants sellers and their agencies to have a practical first look at tracking quality before they spend time debugging or make decisions from incomplete data. The browser check is free to run, with no account or card required.

GTM & tag audit FAQs

Is the GTM audit really free?

Yes. You can run a free tag and Google Tag Manager audit with no account, no credit card, and no sales call. Enter a public website URL and an email address so we can send you the report.

Do I need Google Tag Manager to use the audit?

No. The audit detects supported tracking scripts and observed browser requests, including GA4, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok, and other vendors, whether or not you use a tag manager.

What does the audit grade mean?

Your report includes an A–F health grade based on the checks performed and the tracking observed during the scan, together with issues and recommendations. A grade is not a guarantee that every tag or conversion works across every page and customer journey.

Can it find broken conversion tracking?

The audit can flag missing tracking signals, gaps in observed ecommerce events, and invalid or missing fields such as value, currency, or transaction ID in captured events. It does not complete a real purchase or verify server-side deduplication; use your report to identify what needs further testing in your checkout, analytics, and ad platforms.

Can an agency use this to audit client sites?

Yes. Agencies can scan public client websites to assess observed tracking and analytics setup before onboarding or a deeper review. Share the report and use its findings to plan further container, consent, and conversion testing with the client.
